Infiniti in the next five years: official plans revealed

Infiniti, a rapidly growing Japanese premium car manufacturer is currently in the process of producing a Mercedes-Benz S-Class-sized limousine, a new AWD 7-seat SUV and an all electric entry-level model. In 2010 the Japanese carmaker will introduce a brand new "M" badged mid-sized executive saloon that will be designed to accommodate the 3.7-liter V6 gasoline unit of the Infiniti and the upcoming 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, but before that the V6 oil-burner will get to the EX and FX SUVs first.Also in the works is a gasoline-electric hybrid version of the "M" but it is not yet confirmed for the European market. There are no V8 options planned for the present. The latest "M" will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show next year.
To be launched next year is a new QX large SUV which will be positioned just above the FX with AWD and will be a seven-seater. The size of the QX will make it ideal for the American and Russian markets rather than UK's narrow streets. So, the SUV will be available for the UK only through special order. Another Infiniti with seven seats, however, is coming along soon. It is going to be a low-lying, smooth 7-seater model which, if approved, can be seeing sales between now and 2014. Infiniti is planning to release two brand new saloons in 2012, one will be a flagship limousine and the other the replacement for the current G37.
The carmaker‚ largest 4-door will be badged "Q" and will replace the Q45 saloon that was discontinued in 2006 by Infiniti. The succeeding G-badged model lineup should constitute the majority of Infiniti‚ sales in the European market. From the little that is known, what is definite is that no diesel units will come with the G range until this latest version becomes available. The most distant plans of Infiniti consist of a battery-driven compact car, but building it is just within the realm of ambition for the carmaker rather than an actual part of a production timetable. Of course, to be effective the car would have to be fairly small with a low ride height and efficient aerodynamically. It has to either be a rear- or four-wheel-drive to be a true Infiniti.
