The distinction of having the fastest street-legal Opel goes to Steinmetz in collaboration with Klasen Motors. Last October at the Italian Nardo circuit, the twin-tuned Opel Insignia Sports Tourer OPC reached 287.4 km/h (178.6 mph). The vehicle started as a turbocharged V6 with 325 hp and 435 Nm. After which, Steinmetz lowered the suspension, optimized the aerodynamics (new grille, "pedestrian friendly" front spoiler and a custom rear spoilers) and installed a set of 20-inch rims. Also added were new floor mats, a bespoke roof spoiled and chrome trim. At Klasen Motors, where the car was fitted with a bigger turbine, a new exhaust system and a larger intercooler were attached. After receiving new fuel injectors and ECU reprogramming, the Insignia was recorded to be able to produce 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque. The car is still able to use its OPC stock adaptive FlexRide suspension and brakes. Furthermore, when setting the record, the driver didn't have to turn the steering wheel to a very big angle. That's because when driving on the outer most lane, thanks to the circuit's banking, a car can travel up to a speed of 240 km/h without having to steer at all.
