Is it a Ram? Is it a Dodge? Chrysler prepares to make it clear for us!

Chrysler Group's creation of a fourth vehicle brand -- Ram, for commercial vehicles -- last October created much confusion among customers and dealers. It left many scratching their heads on what to call the Dakota, for example. Is it a Ram Dakota or a Dodge Dakota, or a Dodge Dakota by Ram? Truck owners would normally say they drive a Chevy or a Ford or a Dodge. But to say that they drive a Ram is just awkward. Now that Ram has lost its pickups, it has been more difficult to make out. Fred Diaz Jr., CEO of the Ram brand, says that the company is devising a plan that will give compelling missions for each brand. The pickups, Dakota and Ram, will continue to carry Dodge vehicle identification numbers and will carry the Dodge name. He said that customers will say that they a Dodge Ram but that it will be marketed as a Ram without 'Dodge' in front.
