Jaguar mulls new ‘S’ version of XFR super saloon to match rivals

2012 Jaguar XFR Facelift

Jaguar is seriously mulling to create a new version of the Jaguar XFR, in an attempt to outmatch the models from rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Jaguar plans to introduce the XFR-S, the 503-bhp XFR’s faster and more focused variant aimed at competing, or even winning, against the 552bhp BMW M5 and 549bhp Mercedes E63 AMG, company insiders revealed. Jaguar has been successful in giving the “R-S” moniker to its XKR model, and plans to duplicate that achievement.

Although Jaguar has yet to release details of the plan, the XFR-S may sport firmer chassis settings, more aggressive styling and exhaust note. Of course, the car’s power, currently supplied by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, should be upgraded to around 550bhp to compete with BMW and Mercedes’ power.

The XFR-S was reportedly seen testing at the Nurburgring last summer. The XKR-S is around £5,000 more expensive than the XKR, and buyers should expect the XFR-S to be priced at the same level. Expected price of the XFR-S is over £70,000, which makes the car more or less as expensive its rivals. [source: Autocar]
