Jaguar plans to increase production

Jaguar Land Rover is denying rumors that it plans to extend the shutdown of its UK plants. Instead, the carmaker asserts that production is due to be ramped up over the coming months. At its Solihull plant, night shifts were introduced to meet demands for the new Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery. The recently launched JLR, the new 2010 XJ, will begin production at the end of September. To cope with the load, about 300 workers from the Solihull plant will be brought to Castle Bromwich. Last weekend, reports appeared saying that aside from the extended shutdown, a new series of staff layoffs were also going to be done. However, a company spokesman disputed these reports and told Autocar that the three-week summer shutdown was shortened to two weeks due to the increased demand. He added, "Far from looking to crank production down we are looking to go the other way." [via autocar]
