Jaguar reveals its innovative Limo-Green Concept

Jaguar Green-Limo ConceptWho’s willing to bet that Jaguar’s innovative Limo-Green concept car will make it to production? Serious testing for the car, a series hybrid XJ equipped with a range extender engine, will begin next year yet but it’s already speculated to be slated for production.

Anthony Harper, head of research at Jaguar Land Rover, says however that before JLR could even think of production, the cost of the electrical components and battery packs should come down first. He added, “The components aren’t at the right cost or quality yet you would expect of a Jaguar product, but the technology is there.” The Limo-Green concept car uses a 145kw, 295lb ft electric motor to power it for up to 30 miles. If the electric charge runs out, a 1.2-liter petrol unit (developed by Lotus) provides backup power and recharges the battery to allow a combined range of 600 miles. Combined fuel economy is 57mpg, while Co2 emissions are sub 120g/km and its top speed is 112mph. For now, there is no production date on Limo-Green. Interestingly, a source has confirmed that the powertrain would be most suited to the XJ.
