The Southern Group of Motoring Writers (SGMW) has awarded the Car of the Decade accolade to the Jaguar XF. The SGMW -- composed of 30 motoring journalists, editors and authors – gave the Car of the Decade award to the Jaguar XF during an event that marked its 10th Anniversary. Sue Baker, the Chairman for the SGMW, cited the Jaguar XF’s “style, grace and driving caliber” as the main reasons why the group’s member chose the vehicle as the as Car of the Decade. Baker added that with the XF’s “proud heritage, voluptuously sculpted design, engineering precision and wow-factor cabin,” the vehicle is truly worthy of the notable award. In receiving the award, Jeremy Hicks, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover UK, remarked that the Jaguar XF has been a real success since its debut in 2008.
He noted receiving the award from the Southern Group of Motoring Writers is another “fantastic accolade.” He quipped that the carmaker has already sold more than 52,000 XF in the United Kingdom and the vehicle has already reaped more than 100 awards globally. He noted that the debut of the 2.2-litre diesel engine to the XF range has allowed them to compete in the corporate market, a key area in which the carmaker sees great growth potential.
One of the main developments in the XF has been the introduction of new powertrains, which led the way for improvements on fuel efficiency as well as emissions performance, opening up new market opportunities for the carmaker. For example, the XF 2.2-litre diesel engine boasts of having a fuel economy of 55.4 mpg and Carbon Dioxide emissions of around 135 g/km, allowing the company to penetrate the corporate sector. Jaguar hopes that the introduction of the XF Sportbrake will also pave way for new market opportunities.
