Jaguar's next all-new model is expected to rival the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Audi a5. Autocar reported that it could be a small coupe. At the Frankfurt Motor Show where the new XJ saloon was unveiled, engineering boss Mick Mohan said that the XE sports car is also being considered along with a sub-£30k coupe. Mohan said that the X-type won't always be around and since, the company has no plans to replace it, there are plans for cheaper models.
He did say that personally, he prefers to make a compact coupe to rival the Audi A5 or BMW 3-Series coupe. He pointed to the profit to be made due primarily to its aluminum platform technology.
At the moment, he says that the company has to make sure the "market takes the XJ to its heart and wait for the recovery to rejuvenate our business a bit." Mohan had spoken after Jaguar boss Mike O'Driscoll had unveiled the new XJ alongside the XF, and the facelifted XK. Furthermore, Mohan also ruled out future crossover cars and pseudo 4x4s for Jaguar.
