Sources told PickupTrucks that the proposal to produce a version of a Jeep pickup recently presented to Chrysler dealerships has been approved. Sources reveal that at a dealers meeting in Orlando, Fla., Jeep CEO Mike Manley showed a pickup truck that closely resembles the well-received Jeep Gladiator concept from 2005. It is believed that this Jeep pickup will start production in the third quarter of 2011 and that this pickup will be offered as a 2012 model. The sources also said that this model is based on the four-door Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited platform but that it will feature a two-door regular cab configuration with extra storage space behind the front seats. Notably, the last pickup that Jeep had on sale for the North American market was the Jeep Comanche, which stopped production in 1992. Last June, Manley told PickupTrucks.com that his interest in small pickup trucks stems from its worldwide appeal. Jeep declined to comment on this report. [via PickupTrucks]
