Jeep Wrangler won’t get a diesel engine in North America… yet!

2011 Jeep Wrangler

Fans may be a bit disappointed that the Jeep Wrangler won't be getting a diesel engine in North America in 2011, as Chrysler Group LLC had implied in its five-year business plan revealed on Nov. 4. By next summer, the Wranglers in North America will likely receive Chrysler's new Pentastar V6 engine. All Jeep Wranglers are built at the Toledo Jeep Assembly complex. Diesel fuel costs more but diesel engines offer greater fuel economy and greater torque, something that off-roading enthusiasts would definitely appreciate. Michael Manley, president and chief executive officer of the Jeep brand, said that for the moment, there are no plans for diesel Jeeps in North America, but then he wouldn't rule it out. To guard the reputation of the Wrangler, Manley said that Chrysler intends to keep the "Jeep DNA" in Jeep vehicles.[source autoblog via toledoblade]
