More than just winning for himself, Jenson Button‚ win at the 2009 Formula One world championship also speaks volumes for what will become of his team. Button got the title after placing fifth in the Brazilian Grand Prix. His result overshadowed the second F1 victory of Mark Webber, who commanded the race for Red Bull.
In an interview after his win was announced, Button expressed his amazement, stating that the win makes up for the last few races that he participated in. He talked about the 21 years that have passed since he first raced a kart. Surprisingly, Button said that he never expected to be world champion in F1, because he thought racing drivers in F1 are different from him. His title rival Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull made it up to fourth from 15th on the grid, but fell short of getting the title. Button's closest rival and Brawn team-mate Rubens Barrichello was running fourth when he had to pit with a puncture eight laps from the end. Incidentally, this win also gave Brawn a remarkable constructors' championship title in the team's first year. It can be recalled that last December, Honda pulled the plug on their Formula One operation, making the futures of Brawn workers incredibly bleak.
