Unconfirmed reports say that Karmann has been saved from bankruptcy after striking a 10 million deal with Volkswagen to produce electric vehicles. According to unnamed sources, the insolvent coachbuilder will be reorganized to focus on building electric-powered cars. Karmann's mass-produced EVs, most likely small city cars, are expected to start selling in 2011. In early 2009, Karmann had shown off its E3 Limousine that has a top speed of 85mph and claims to have a range of 90 miles. Seen at the 2008 Paris motor show was the Quicc! DiVa by DuraCar electric van. This was to be built by Karmann for the German market. Electric conversions of the Karmann Ghia have also been produced.
