The price of the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is presently pegged at a very high $103,300 (excluding taxes) but you can get similar performance from a lesser priced standard Corvette that comes with a new Air Attack LS7 Supercharged crate engine from Katech. This engine was designed based on the LS7 7.0L V8 found in the Z06 but comes equipped with a new forced-induction system specifically designed for the racing strip.
The Katech version of the LS7 produces up to 750hp and 700lb-ft (948Nm) of torque compared with the standard LS7 found in the Z06 which outputs 50% less horsepower at 505hp.
The extra boost comes from the setting up of new aftermarket parts such as, new forged steel crankshaft and steel rods, special Katech-designed aluminum pistons and camshaft, and a Magnuson M22 twin-screw high helix supercharger running at 7-10 psi of boost, all of which were engineered to withstand any pressure demands that it will be subjected to.
Buyers will get this engine for $37,000( â‚ 27,270 ), but Katech offers a naturally aspirated version with exactly the same upgraded internals for less than $24,000( â‚ 17,680 ). Currently, a more powerful engine equipped with a twin-turbocharger engine is in the process of being created.
Besides powerful parts and engines, Katech also offers complete cars like the Corvette Z06 ClubSport (you can see it in the photo gallery below) track special which was recently released. This car was created in the same category as the Ferrari,Lamborghini and Porsche so if you see one on the street be careful not to make it angry!
