Kia planning a major marketing boost for the 2011 Optima

Kia has high hopes for its redesigned 2011 Optima, with its unique design and features, to soon be one of its topselling nameplates. Kia’s current Optima occupies only a thin slice of the roughly 1.7 million-unit mid-sized sedan segment. Kia sells only about 25,000 units each year in the US. But Kia anticipates sales to go up due to Optima’s sporty exterior design made by Kia’s European design studio in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Optima features an optional panoramic sunroof, standard Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a 200hp 2.4-liter gasoline direct-injection four-cylinder base engine. Tom Loveless, Kia’s US sales boss, told reporters that he is sure that the Optima “will be one of the top two volume vehicles” for the company.
Kia is hoping that it will be able to steal consumers away from Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, the volume-leaders in the segment. However, Loveless didn’t provide an estimate of what the specific annual sales volume target is. He explained that the company is in the process of “trying to work out next year’s calendar planning.” [via autonews - sub. required]
