Kia to cease production of Sedona MPV in 2011
When Kia ceases production of the seven-seat Sedona MPV in 2011, it will be the last version of the model to roll out as the manufacturer doesn’t plan on replacing it with another model. This bit of news tidbit was confirmed by a company official who explained that the production will end due to reduced demand.
He pointed to the downsizing trend as a trigger. Kia’s efforts in Europe are making powertrains smaller and more efficient so it’s quite understandable that a large MPV with lots of power and high emissions won’t get as much interest. Continued after the jump!
Meanwhile, Kia is pushing through with its plan to debut the Magentis in 2011. A selected group in South Korea has already seen the first concept. Peter Schreyer, Kia’s European chief designer, is believed to have created a “very smart design.”
Both petrol and diesel engine offerings were given for the Kia Sedona. The top-of-the-range configuration was the 3.8-liter V6 unit that develops 250 horsepower and 343 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm and is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission (market dependent). With regards to fuel consumption, the MPV achieves 16 mpg (14.7 L/100Km) city and 23 mpg (10.2 L/100Km) highway.
