As you may know already, Kia announced that it will recall 35,000 Souls and Sorentos from the 2010 and 2011 model years for faulty wiring harnesses that could cause a fire. Following this, Kia Motors Corp. Vice Chairman Jeong Sung Eun resigned on September 3.
Jeong Sung Eun will be replaced by president Lee Hyoung Keun. “Jeong resigning is a preemptive action,” said Chae Hee Guen, a Seoul-based analyst at Meritz Securities Co. Quality is a top priority for Kia and Hyundai Motor Co. management. They don't want to tarnish their image.” added Chae Hee Guen. Kia said in a statement that has recalled more than 85,900 vehicles worldwide due to an electrical wiring problem. The Korean manufacturer will also recall 18,147 Sorento, Borego and Soul models in China because of problems with circuit boards. [via autonews - sub. required]
