Kicherer SLS 63 CP based on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
Did you ever stop to wonder why the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL has a grid in front of the windscreen or what the “CP” on the vehicle actually means? To explain it, a trip down history lane has to be taken. The Carrera (race) was held all through Mexico along the famous Panamerican Highway and it had the support of the Mexican government. In 1952, a highly interesting race took place.
The Mercedes 300-Benz SL won that year but a low-flying vulture had flown right smack to the windscreen. The co-driver was hit and injured and as a result, the Mercedes-Benz mechanics built a grid in front of the windscreen to prevent such a thing happening again. The Kicherer engineers then decided to name the vehicle as the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Continued after the jump!
In addition, we recently found out that the abbreviation CP can again be found in the type description. Mercedes-Benz has said that it will only add to the basic AMG form if it means that a sportier, more aerodynamic version of the wingdoored car would be developed. In addition the developers conceived and mounted a front spoiler lip, a roof, a rear diffusor and larger air intakes to better cool the 6.3-liter V8 engine.
All of the Kicherer elements are made of high class Carbon. At the front of the SLS, the large handcrafted front grill made of stainless steel is highly noticeable. The grill is optionally also available in a discreet gold tone. The appearance of the vertical struts is intended to remind viewers of the window grill on the original Pan-American vehicle. In addition, the sportscar will have the 3 part 20 inch RS-1 lightweight wheels.
The classic double spoke design harmonizes perfectly with the equally classic sportscar silhouette of the Kicherer SLS 63 CP. At the back of the car, there is a stainless steel exhaust with four oval endpipes that melodiously release the exhaust gases into the air. Having an integrated valve control means that the driver can choose between a sonorous and a discreet tone. Various performance enhancers for the 575 PS strong aggregate are optionally available but initially only on demand.
