KTM unveils E3W Concept, wants to take on Renault Twizy

KTM E3W Concept

KTM PowerSports has teamed up with the Austrian Institute of Technology and industrial design studio Kisha for the environmentally friendly E3W model. KTM Sportmotorcycle AG is known for having built the X-Bow. The Austrian government had partly funded this very successful project. They designed the Electric 3 Wheeler to be a practical, smart and eco-friendly two-seater that could get through city traffic with the least environmental impact.

This three-wheeler is expected to go up against the Renault Twizy with its very trendy exteriors and scissor doors. The KTM E3W is certainly a green vehicle that could hold its own when being compared against similar vehicles. The KTM E3W, which weighs only 500kg, is powered by a 20hp engine that runs on lithium-ion batteries and is estimated to have a drive range of 100km on a full charge. It is built totally from plastic.

KTM is rumored to have plans to enter a strategic alliance and for this prototype to start production within two years. In particular, the two-year alliance is supposedly for 50,000 units. It’s also likely to be priced between EUR5,000 (around $7,000) and EUR8,000 (around $11,500).
