The new Cube is here as Nissan has made public initial details and a full gallery of the Japanese domestic market (JDM) version but only a meager three high-resolution photos of the U.S.-spec model which will make its introduction at the 2008 LA Auto Show.
Nissan's new Cube will be on sale in Japan beginning on November 26, in North American in the spring of 2009, and in Europe and other global outlets in the fall 2009.
The successful, all-new third generation Cube which has sold almost one million vehicles up to this writing in Japan since its debut in 1998, preserves the unique design as well as the non-symmetrical rear end of its precursors.
Basing from the images that Nissan published, it seems like the U.S.-spec model highlights a slightly larger front bumper in contrast to the JDM version.
Inside, the Cube follows the same funky design theme as the exterior with a swoopy dash, colorful details and loads of plastic. It is asserted by Nissan that even though the new Cube measures less than four meters long, it is more spacious than the retiring model which was exclusively sold in Japan.
Other attributes of the JDM model's interior consist of sofa-like seating, a large glass roof panel that extends over the driver's seat for wider view of the outside environment, and a shoji-style roof screen.
The Cube comes propelled by a 1.5-liter HR15DE 4-cylinder engine. As with the preceding models, the new Cube will be available in both front- and four-wheel drive variants. Price will start in Japan, from 1,449,500 to 1,912,000 yen ($14,950 - $19,735) for the Cube 2WD and 1,687,400 to 1,928,900 yen ($17,400 - $19,900) for the 4WD version.
