The Shelby GT500, which is known as the ultimate Ford Mustang, brings the standard of performance higher as it introduces the new 2013 model, which delivers 650 horsepower and boasts a top speed of at least 200 mph. The new model will go on sale in 2012. According to Jost Capito, director of Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development, the SVT maintains the Shelby GT500 on "the cutting edge of technology" and brings muscle vehicle performance to new levels. He further stated that every aspect of performance is "encapsulated" in this vehicle.
Regular drivers will also find the vehicle suitable for daily use. The 5.8-liter V8 aluminum-block engine delivers 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the world's most powerful production V8. The 3,850-pound vehicle is also exempted from the gas-guzzler tax.
Almost every aspect of the powertrain has been optimized for producing the additional horsepower with its new supercharger, updated camshaft profiles, new cross-drilled block and heads, upgraded clutch, transmission and axle as well as a new carbon fiber driveshaft. A bigger and more efficient supercharger flowing more air through the engine is vital in producing 650 horsepower.
The new TVS series 2300 develops 2.3 liters of displacement. It is also a one-of-a-kind design to the 5.8-liter engine. The entire cooling system has been considerably updated on the new 5.8-liter engine. It now comes with a bigger cooling fan, a more efficient charge air cooler, fan shroud with high-speed pressure-relief doors, an intercooler heat exchanger with volume boosted 36 percent and a higher-flow intercooler pump.
Revamped 2013 Shelby GT500 bears the newly designed LED bars for the front and rear sections. The rocker panels are now painted in body-colour to exude more elegance. Moreover, the rear end houses the new quad tip exhaust, diffusers and taillights with black panels in between. At the front, Shelby GT500 also has the new splitters; black upper and lower grille inserts that show off the stylish radiator’s high performance function.
The new model currently offers two different sets of forged alloy wheels. Shelby also has the optional package for a limited edition wheel of your choice. Meanwhile, both 20-inch and 19-inch rear wheels are equipped with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G’s 2 tyres on all configurations. The super lightweight wheels are sportier with the new 5-spoke design with darker polish.
To mark SVT’s 20th year anniversary, the designers had placed the Special Vehicle Team’s badge along the exterior and interiors. SVT was officially launched at the 1992 Chicago Auto Show. The same event also introduced Ford’s SVT F-150 Lightning along with 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra model. The latter is capable of delivering a 235hp with its 5L V8 engine. That was 20 years ago. So as you can see, Ford SVT has come a long way.
In the meantime, Shelby GT500 has optimized its aerodynamics efficiency. This would allow the vehicle to perform at different speeds without compromising the down force. Because of this, the engineers employed the highly advanced CFD (or known as computational fluid dynamics) to find out where the airflow is moving. This helps them optimize the air-cooling so that the car won’t flip when driving too fast.
