The 2013 Lincoln MKT made its debut today at the 2011 LA Auto Show and according to FoMoCo it will offer a dramatically improved ride, sharper handling, better fuel economy but also new technologies such as rear inflatable seat belts. Under the hood, we find a 3.7-liter V6 engine delivering 300 hp and 275 lb.-ft. of torque.
Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the engine promises to deliver a fuel economy of 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, a 1 mpg highway improvement. If you want more power, the 2013 Lincoln MKT is also available with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivering 355 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,500 to 5,250 rpm. This model promises a fuel economy of 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.
The engines are equipped with two versions of the six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission: the 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 uses the 6F-50, and the more powerful 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 uses the heavy-duty 6F-55. All-wheel drive comes as standard on the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, but the intelligent system is able to route the power only on the front wheels in good weather over smooth roads at modest speeds.
The version powered by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is fitted with the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) adjustable suspension which enables a more confident driving experience.
Moreover, the CCD is always tuning and refining the ride quality. The Lincoln Drive Control, also included with EcoBoost V6, offers three distinct drive modes - Sport, Normal and Comfort – easy to select via MKT's new Lincoln Drive Control and the shift lever.
Other highlights of the 2013MY are the Active Park Assist system as well as the improved braking system which comes with new front discs measuring 13.86 inches (352 millimeters), more than an inch larger than 2012.
Regarding the design, the vehicle received a new grille and front fascia as well as a new wheel selections. The interior was also updated and complements the airy feeling afforded by the standard Panoramic Fixed-glass Vista Roof. The new MyLincoln Touch is also present promising to offer Lincoln's most advanced HMI or Human-Machine Interface. The base-level 2013 Lincoln MKT will sell for $46,160, including an $875 destination charge.
