Galpin Auto Sports teased their Rocket earlier this month, but the sports car was finally unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Designed by Henkrik Fisker, the Galpin Rocket is based on the 2015 Mustang and is inspired by iconic pony cars of the 1960’s and 1970’s, including the 1968 Shelby GT500.
The design is dominated by the imposing hexagonal carbon fiber grill split by a polished aluminum bar fitted with a ‘wild horse running’ logo inspired by the ‘60’s Mustangs. The new front grille is part of a new front bumper which makes the vehicle more aggressive.
In addition, the vehicle is fitted with a new front hood and enlarged fenders, which hid the 21-inch ADV.1 wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero high-performance tires. Behind the wheels, there are 15-inch Brembo Grand Turismo high performance brakes.
The rear end shows a new boot lid featuring the ‘Rocket’ lettering, as well as a new rear bumper with integrated air diffuser and exhaust system. Under the hood, there is a 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops a staggering 725 hp.
“It's a special moment when you get to work on a car like the Ford Mustang. This is a project born out of passion, it's a dream come true, to have the opportunity to "touch" a Mustang and apply my design ideas to it,” said Fisker. [source: Galpin Auto Sports]
