Scion officially revealed ahead of 2014 LA Auto Show the all-new iM Concept, a vehicle designed for young people who want to reach to their destination in style. Set to debut on Wednesday, November 19, this new concept is a five-door compact hatchback inspired by those seen the European touring car racing circuit.
Racing spirit is inspired by the geometric grille inserts and deep air intakes and complemented by the ”Incrediblue” paint as well as matte silver and gunmetal accents. At the rear, there is a stylish bumper with integrated air diffuser and a central exhaust tailpipe.
In addition, the vehicle arrives with a lower ride height and 19-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance tires, which hide the vented front rotors and 4-piston calipers.
For those who have long wanted to have an adventure and a vehicle fitted for one, look no further as Scion revealed it will be coming out with a production version of its Scion iM Concept car. Set to be released to different dealers this coming 2015, the highly-versatile compact 5-door hatchback was first shown to the public during the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
This production version will be initially shown, along with another new offering from Scion, at April’s New York International Auto Show. Scion Vice President Doug Murtha shared that the two models the company is unveiling at New York mark the start of Scion. He adds that the company has plans to come out with three new models to its showrooms within the next three years.
These new offerings are expected to deliver various options not only for present customers but potential customers of Scion as well, he continued. The combination of a low ride height and a wide stance gives the iM Concept a grounded look. It is also ideal for displaying its sporty handling and the fact it is inspired by racing. The overhangs on the front and rear bumper result in dynamic surfaces, aided by the fog lights deep air intake, and geometric grille inserts.
There are vented rotors with 4-piston calipers on the front which functions with the adjustable-height racing suspension. Fitted to the iM Concept are the forged alloy 19-inch wheels which sit evenly with the body. Since it not only delivers sporty handling but allows for easy parking and even comes with remarkable fuel consumption, drivers are likely to experience that it more than meets the requirements of driving in city streets.
Urban drivers can expect the iM Concept to meet the needs of city streets with excellent fuel efficiency, sporty handling and easy parking. The name of this hatchback is derived from its target demographic which continues to evolve. The "i" is for intriguing, individuality, and income. Meanwhile the "M" is for magnetic, multi-faceted, and modern. This is why it has that captivating style and mixed in with the customized Incrediblue paint.
Complementing this are the gunmetal and matte silver highlights. For those not familiar, Scion is Toyota’s test laboratory and this may be why it continues to attract people who want to go above the crowd and have an independent spirit.
With a number of customers aged as young as 18 years to 34 years old, they put a high premium on degree of practicality as this is what they need in order to support mobile lifestyles. Since they want greater independence but have a disposable income that is less compared to others, sensibility and fun are typically two qualities they want in a vehicle.
According to Scion, details on the production version of the iM Concept, that include, among others, technology, engine, and transmission, will be made available by 2015 with pricing information to be released in 2016. Since the company is aiming at young customers, the company expects price to be below $20,000.
