Audi has chosen the upcoming 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show as a venue to showcase its latest performance vehicles. These vehicles – the 2016 Audi RS 7 performance, 2016 Audi S8 plus, and 2017 Audi R8 – are all expected to feature the German premium carmaker’s eye for performance, technology and design.
What sets apart the 2016 Audi RS 7 performance from a typical RS vehicle is the presence of more power and better performance, as its name suggests. While it still features the impressive RS design that conveys its sportiness and refinement, its power has been upgraded from the usual 560 hp to 605 hp.
With this, Audi now has the RS 7 and the RS 7 performance to offer for those seeking the thrill of having more power either on the track or on the road.
On the other hand, the 2016 Audi S8 plus is a levelled-up version the Audi S8, featuring better performance and higher level of luxury. Powered by higher-output 4.0T twin turbo V8 engine that churns out over 600 hp, the S8 plus also features an array of new exterior design elements.
To go on sale in the spring of 2016, the 2017 Audi R8 is considered as the most powerful and fastest Audi ever. Simply put, the R8 sits on top of the Audi range in terms of performance. The latest iteration of the R8 could be availed in two powertrain variants. Customers could avail of the 5.2L V10 engine that now develops 540 hp, around 15 hp more powerful than the previous R8 model.
For those simply wanting more, they could opt for the R8 V10 Plus, which develops 610 hp, around 60 hp more powerful than the previous model. Interestingly, the Audi R8 and the Audi R8 LMS racecar were co-developed with the close cooperation of Audi Sport engineers, race drivers and developers.
In fact, around 50 percent of these two vehicles feature the same parts, including the V10 engine. According to Filip Brabec, Director of Product Management for Audi of America, the Audi Sport and performance models have the core aspects of Audi’s character.
He described the Audi R8, RS 7 performance and S8 plus as representations of the best Audi can offer when it comes to performance, premium design and technology. Germany-based Audi AG is one of the largest and most successful premium carmakers in the world, offering German-engineered luxury vehicles.
In 2014, deliveries by the Audi Group topped 1,741,000 vehicles, allowing it to post a new sales record for fifth year in a row in the United States. The premium carmaker is currently implementing its EUR24-billion investment plan that will run through 2019. Around 70 percent of the investment will be used to finance the development of new models and technologies.
