As part of the plan to further expand its business activities globally, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. will start a division in China. Following a recent decision by the Board of Management, the Italian luxury sportscar producer will set up Automobili Lamborghini China in Beijing, the capital city, and will begin operations early next year.

The success of the Lamborghini as a super sportscar producer is the result of two very clear strategies. First, is the creation of an unparalleled new and extensive and attractive range of products. Second, and equally essential, is the ongoing expansion of brand representation to guarantee considerable presence in all major markets on the planet. More details after the jump!

The President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., Stephan Winkelmann, shared the raison d’être of the move: “China has the strongest dynamics of change to undoubtedly become the leading economy in the world. As one of the symbols of European luxury tradition, our products and our brand promise are irrevocably moving into the focus of a growing number of people. The development of wealth and the developing ‘savoir-vivre’ in China makes it one of the pivotal markets for Lamborghini’s future growth. The decision to establish a branch in China illustrates our dedication to opening the potential of this market for Lamborghini. Our new regional office will ensure the presence of the brand and further the prosperity of the corporation on a global scale.”

In 2008 Automobili Lamborghini foresees an increase of car sales in China by 186%, that is, 28 cars in 2007 and an expected 80 in 2008. The market for luxury vehicles is characterized by secure and firm growth and by a wide presence in practically all major economic cities throughout the country. Meanwhile, Automobili Lamborghini has three dealers located in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, one in Hong Kong, and another two will be shortly be opened in Chengdu and Qingdao. Lamborghini is currently concentrating on establishing a roughly balanced division of international sales particularly in the three major regions of Northern America, Europe and Asia.

Eginardo Bertoli was appointed by Stephan Winkelmann as Country Manager of Automobili Lamborghini in China. Mr Bertoli will give account directly to Enrico Maffeo, Director of Sales and Customer Service worldwide, and who is based at the Lamborghini headquarters in Italy. Mr. Bertoli, having worked for string of international companies, such as Fiat Powertrain Technologies, Kongsberg Automotive and Interpump Group S.p.A., has a solid background in the car industry.

Mr. Bertoli’s job has included some higher-ranking positions in Italy, the USA as well as in China. During his three years’ assignment for Iveco Motors in Shanghai he gained considerable experience of the Chinese market. Zhang Xiaodong will be head of customer service in China. He will supervise all aftersales operations together with warranty, parts and service, and will report directly to Eginardo Bertoli.
