Lamborghini set to build successor to LM002 SUV

Lamborghini LM002 SUV

It appears that the coming of an all-new Lamborghini SUV is imminent, as several sources revealed the fact that the Italian supercar manufacturer is preparing a big return in the off-road segment. The latest report comes from Auto Express magazine, which says that the new car will use the same platform as the Audi Q5 and the upcoming Porsche Cajun. The new car is expected to be a u-turn, comparing it with the first SUV built by Lamborghini, the LM002, which was designed for military use.

The LM002 was powered by an impressive V12 engine found also on the Lamborghini Countach. The new car, dubbed LM00X, is likely to receive a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 (which will debut on the upcoming Audi S7 in 2011), capable to deliver over 550 hp.

This means that the car will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than four seconds. If true, the performances of the car will blast cars such as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo or the Bmw X6 M. Regarding the design, the car is expected to be impressive, because it will carry the same design philosophy found on the Lamborghini models.
