Lamborghini SUV confirmed! Coming to the 2012 Beijing Motor Show!

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

Lamborghini will soon unveil a dramatically styled and extravagantly equipped SUV/crossover concept -- a successor to the LM002, according to a senior source at Audi (Lamborghini's parent company). The source said that he can’t give details but he confirmed that the speculations are “largely correct.” This new SUV concept will be unveiled to the public in late April at the Beijing motor show.

The new SUV/crossover will be added to the existing Lamborghini lineup along with the successor to the Gallardo and the newly presented Aventador in what would at least be a three model lineup starting in 2016. Lamborghini has yet to confirm the reports. Another model that’s being considered is the unprecedented fourth model, which is a low-slung four-door sedan that was previewed by the Estoque concept shown at the 2008 Paris motor show.

The new Lamborghini SUV was intended to sell fewer than 1,500 each year. It is meant to be an upmarket rival for the Maserati Kubang, the BMW X6 and a similar four-door coupelike off-roader from Mercedes-Benz. The U.S. and China are the key markets for the new performance-orientated, four-wheel drive model. It’s believed that a 197-inch-long four-seater will start selling with a detuned version of the Gallardo's 5.2-liter V-10, which produces around 580 hp. Another model in consideration is a hybrid version with four-wheel drive that combines the standard V-10 with a 107-hp (80-kilowatt) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, estimated to have a combined output of nearly 660 hp.
