Land Rover Defender sales show poor recovery

Sales of Land Rover’s Defender aren’t recovering as fast as the other models in the company’s lineup.
The reason is that Defender sales rely on government sales and many governments throughout the world are still cutting back.
Land Rover’s sales were at their lowest in 2008 but they have recovered well.
Last August, Land Rover sold 12,432 units, a year-on-year increase of 28%. This brings the cumulative sales for the fiscal year to date (April 2010 to August 2010) to 67,840, a 52% increase when compared to 2009.
For the first five months of 2010, UK sales had gone up 60% year-on-year and increased by 64% year-on-year in May. The Range Rover had the largest jump, with a 121% increase in sales in May 2009. Discovery sales had increased by 87%, Range Rover Sport sales went up by 58%, Freelander sales climbed by 60% and Defender sales grew by 32%. [via autocar]
