Land Rover increases production

Regular production of the new 2010 Range Rover Sport and Discovery 4 resumes this September, with production slated to run 5 days a week. The past year, we've seen Land Rover cut production of its three most popular models. However, in July, Range Rover sales rose 50% due to the launch of its facelifted model. Meanwhile, sales of the Freelander, traditionally Land Rover's highest-selling model, continue to decline.
Overall UK Land Rover sales are down 37% so far this year to just short of 15,000 units. As a result, Freelander production at Halewood, Merseyside, will be suspended for at least three weeks in September.
A plan later this year to phase out the X-Type will lead to 300 redundancies at the Merseyside plant. Jaguar's sales in the UK are currently running at an annualized rate of around 18,000 units; however, the company anticipates a boost at the end of the year from the introduction of the all-new 2010 XJ.
