Land Rover LRX receives green light

Land Rover is in the process of taking down the carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption of its cars beginning with the Freelander that comes equipped with a stop-start technology. It doesn't end there however since the carmaker is going to release a hybrid LRX. The hybrid system of the large car will be adapted by Land Rover to the highly anticipated compact Range Rover. The LRX will also be equipped with a drive system that can run on electric power alone or gasoline only or both, just like the Land-e concept shown in the Geneva Motor Show back in 2006. Furthermore, the LRX will probably be receiving an electric drive rear axle, seen in the Land-e, which channels electric energy to the front axle, change inner and outer wheel torque and can even disconnect itself from the central driveshaft in its search for better grip. The system can provide a highly efficient on-road electric mode when combined with the factory Terrain Response system. Stop-start and brake energy regeneration will be applied to all models of Land Rover soon, but a hybrid LRX will have to wait two years more.
