Land Rover to use hybrid technology on its future models

Land Rover is looking into the possibility of using hybrid technology on its future models. The electric powertrain was recently shown off in the Jaguar Limo-Green Concept that had been deemed as a one-off concept. However, JLR is anticipating that if the cost of its electrical components and battery technology goes down, JLR may just get the technology for its future models. The Jaguar Limo-Green Concept car uses an electric powertrain that runs on pure electric power for up to 30 miles. If the batteries go empty, a 1.2-liter petrol engine recharges the battery and extends its range to 600 miles. Anthony Harper, JLR's head of research, said that Land Rover is "more concerned with developing regular hybrid technology for now, while hybrid technology becomes more mainstream and affordable." He added that currently, JLR is looking into more conventional hybrid technology. With Land Rovers, he specifies that they need "lots of power and torque to all four wheels," something that can't be done for long periods at the moment.
