After the last of the pre-production Chevrolet Volts rolled off General Motors' assembly line in Warren , Michigan , all 80 vehicles will then be rigorously tested at the Milford Proving Grounds in the US. While this is ongoing, development work on the range-extender hybrid continues. Bob Warner, GM's director of global pre-production operations, said the next stage of development for the 80 vehicles includes a series of crash tests, developmental drives, battery checks, and climate tests. They will also be subjected to other measures in order to make sure that the production vehicles meet its high standards. In addition, GM said that it plans to build from 2000 to 3000 production versions of the Volt in 2010. US sales are set to begin late next year. On the other hand, the European version, the Vauxhall Ampera, will go on sale in 2011.
