Legendary Yenko preparing to make its comeback
Would you like to see the Yenko Camaro brand revived? One such fan in the identity of Jeff Leonard has decided to coincide the 40th anniversary of the legendary 1969 Yenko Camaro this year with the announcement of his plans to re-establish the Yenko name and launch a range of custom cars.
Leonard, the owner of an original 1968 Yenko Camaro, is putting his marketing firm to work to revive the famous muscle car brand name. Leonard’s General Marketing Capital Incorporated (GMCI) has acquired the Yenko trademark. He plans to build several whole cars together with a limited production vehicle manufacturer, as well as release a new Yenko product line. Continued after the jump!
In the approaching weeks, the Yenko brand will be launching its website where owners and enthusiasts can find information about upcoming cars and products, access historical information about the brand, and register to be a part of the site’s forums.
For those who weren’t around yet when the model was at its prime, let us tell you some trivia about Yenko. In the 1960s, Yenko was a special order vehicle that could only be purchased through Don Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg , Pennsylvania.
Don Yenko used the Central Office Production Order (COPO) program, which is a program GM used for fleet vehicles like police cars, taxi cabs, etc., to special order the most powerful vehicles available.
