2012 Hungarian Grand Prix

The win of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton last Sunday at the Hungarian Grand Prix marks his second victory for the season. Hamilton, the world champion in 2008, did very well during qualifying on Saturday, and so it got a secure pole position (McLaren’s 150th). He was very stealthy and he would have run very wide into the right-handed Turn One and still come to the front. Trailing him is Sebastian Vettel who came after Romain Grosjean. But since the current world champion was elbowed out by the Frenchman, Jenson Button was able to get the opportunity to get past Vettel and take third place. In the early stages of the race, Hamilton was unable to move forward because of Grosjean, whose Lotus is typically easy on Pirelli’s tire compounds. Button stayed at third place for 15 laps but he then started to lose his grip and had to enter the pits to get a new set of medium-compound tyres. Button was able to get back to its position after Vettel and Fernando Alonso made their first stops about a couple of months later. Hamilton came in at the end of lap 18. This incident shows how high McLaren’s standards because of an issue with one of its wheel guns.
