It appears that the compact luxury car segment is anticipated to boom as various carmakers have joined the bandwagon. It was recently revealed that Toyota's Lexus compact car could be sold in the US by 2012. Earlier this month, an official teaser sketch of the Lexus rival to premium hatchbacks such as the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 was shown. The sketch depicted a concept version of the car that is scheduled to be revealed at next month's Frankfurt Auto Show but a production version is expected to go on sale by the middle of next year. Most reports are saying however that the North American market will miss out due to pricing issues. Since it is an entry-level model for Lexus, it will be priced below the IS range - a segment the company is hesitant to enter. Reportedly, both Cadillac and Lincoln are planning new entry-level models for the U.S. and more variants of the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 expected to come to the US in the next few years as well.
