Bentley launches Inspirator app, let's you configure your Bentayga

Article by Andrew Christian, on October 26, 2015

How would you like to choose the style of your own Bentley? Somehow, Bentley helps interested buyers do just that with its newest application – the Inspirator. This innovation from the British carmaker – compatible only with iOS devices -- somehow can detect one’s personal preferences and translate them into a suitable recommendation.

The Inspirator works by first making an interested buyer watch a series of videos in any iOS device. Thanks to the device’s camera function and the app’s facial and emotion recognition software, the Inspirator can gauge and analyze a viewer’s facial expressions and reactions while he or she is watching.

How the viewer responded to the current video will dictate the succeeding one. Likewise, the response of the viewer on certain images will enable the Inspirator to determine their personal preferences.

Throughout the film and the configuration process, viewers are supported by a guide who prompts them to determine the features and finishes most appropriate to their lifestyle and preferences. At the end of the film, the app will create and reveal a vehicle configuration that will suit the taste of the viewer.

This configuration, however, may not be the customer’s final makeup for his or her Bentley. Customers could further personalize their Bentleys by availing of the accessible options offered by the British carmaker.

This new app is able to identify around 34 facial landmarks at 15 frames per second using precise emotion metrics algorithms built using the largest emotion data bank in the world. In fact, this bank has over 12 billion emotion data points collected and analyzed from around 3.4 million faces in 75 countries.

Kevin Rose, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, remarked that choosing the specs of a Bentley is a personal experience as this reflects one’s personality and taste. He noted that the Inspirator seeks to have an understanding of the inspiration behind this process.

He added that this new app provides curated responses that can be personalized to allow customers to make their Bentley their own. While the Inspirator is currently available just for the Bentayga, Bentley is planning to include its other offerings in the app. The Inspirator can be downloaded at www.bentleymotors.com/inspirator or from the Apple App Store.

BENTLEY INSPIRATOR: PERSONAL PREFERENCE BROUGHT TO LIFE

Personal style preferences can now be transformed into recommendation, with Bentley’s latest innovation: the Inspirator. The application monitors the users’ facial expressions and reactions and interprets them in order to configure the perfect Bentley for them.

Utilising any iOS device’s camera function, the application’s facial and emotion recognition software measures and analyses the viewer’s emotion based on nuanced facial expressions. 34 facial landmarks are identified at 15 frames per second, as the viewer reacts to stimulating film content.

The accurate emotion metrics algorithms are built using the world’s largest emotion data repository – 3.4 million faces have been analysed in 75 countries amounting to more than 12 billion emotion data points.

The viewer’s reactions dictate a unique film narrative; the film changes according to what the user responds to most positively, but also deciphers their preferences, creating a unique configuration revealed at the end of the film.

The resultant configuration forms an inspiring starting point in the personalisation process, which users can then develop further thanks to the myriad bespoke options offered by Bentley.

A helpful guide supports the user during their journey through the configuration process. As the guide prompts the user to consider what kind of features and finishes best suit their lifestyle and preferences, evocative images representative of these flash across the screen.

Kevin Rose, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, said: “Configuring a Bentley is an intensely personal experience; it is a reflection of your personality and taste. The Inspirator aims to understand the inspiration behind the process of specifying a car. It provides intelligently curated responses which can be personalised further to truly make the car your own.”

Currently available for the Bentayga only, the rest of the Bentley range will be included in the Inspirator in the coming months.
