Lightning planning three new electric cars

It is slated to be commercially produced next year. Built to give the GT more than 700bhp, four 120Kw electric motors are powering the GT, along with new 37Kw ‚ÄòNanoSafe‚Äô batteries. While the GT can reach 60mph in 4.0 seconds, its top speed is 130mph. Chairman of the Lightning Car Company, Ian Sanderson, said that the Lightning GT would be ready for sale in spring 2010. He mentioned that the company is pushing ahead with its plans to add models. In the works are a limo-sized model, an SUV, and a smaller sportscar. He added though that the focus is on the Lightning GT. Although the production of these derivative models is still way off in the future, Sanderson confirms that they will be using GT‚ powertrain. Sanderson added that deposits taken for the Lightning GT are comprised of 1/3 from UK and 2/3 abroad. He went on to applaud British technology and expressed pride for promoting a British company.
