Lincoln might use 2015 Mustang components for its upcoming RWD sedan

2013 Ford Mustang

As Ford develops the new 2015 Mustang, it thought about the possibility of using its component set on a rear-wheel drive Lincoln sedan. Ford is studying the potential of installing the MacPherson front and new independent rear suspension of the next-generation Mustang on a new four-door model that’s likely to be a Lincoln. Lincoln doesn’t have the model range of its rivals like Cadillac and Lexus. In fact, the new Lincoln MKS sold just 12,217 vehicles in 2011. This is far from what Ford had expected for this model. Lincoln only has two sedans in its lineup so it would make sense that it would offer a rear-wheel drive model that will compete with Cadillac’s CTS and BMW‘s 5-Series. But even if Lincoln could borrow components from the 2015 Ford Mustang, it still won’t be a simple task. Lincoln’s plan to build a rear-wheel drive architecture just for the brand would be great start for it to be more competitive in the market. [source: Autoblog]
