In another vauxhalldrivercentre.co.uk poll constituting of 630 owners, the 176 mph. Lotus Carlton super-saloon has been elected the UK's favorite Vauxhall. The poll's results, which also incorporated votes for the favorite Vauxhall from the previous five years, were collected in a month and put the Lotus Carlton in top spot ahead of the Cavalier and Calibra. The design and production of the Lotus Carlton was a technical feat for Vauxhall and won huge press respect for its potency, performance and dynamics. It was on record, the world's swiftest four-door production vehicle when it was introduced in 1989, the Lotus Carlton's double-turbocharged, 377 hp powerhouse propelled the vehicle from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and enable it to reach a 176 mph (283 km/h) ceiling speed.
From the last five years the favorite model was the Monaro, the present VXR8's undomesticated forerunner, which joined UK showrooms in 2004. Labeled as a true rear-wheel drive muscle car for enthusiasts," the Monaro merged a brutally competitive price with a lot of standard kit and a 5.7-liter V8 powerhouse. The following year, a VXR variant got the 6.0-liter powerhouse from the Corvette, making it the swiftest car Vauxhall had ever made. The second and third placers were the VXR8 and Astra Sports Hatch, respectively. The second overall favorite Vauxhall of all time next to the Lotus Carlton was the Calibra, with its segment-leading 0.26 Cd figure.
Founded on the chassis of the Cavalier, the Calibra impressed customers and press alike in 1989 at the Frankfurt Show with its swooping lines and four-passenger accommodation. In later years, four-wheel drive and turbocharging enhanced the vehicle, and in its six-year production in excess of 40,000 have been sold.
