Lotus developing new electric sports car

Lotus is laboring on an electric sports car to compete with Tesla's Roadster and Fisker's Karma. The CEO of Lotus, Michael Kimberley, said the company is already "working on the technologies that will go behind" the electric Lotus, and that buyers should not be "surprised to see an electric Lotus shortly".The news emerges after the latest revealing of the Lotus Evora 4-seater, for which there is already a long list of celebrities expressing interest. The Evora and the latest electric Lotus are part of an expanded thrust to make broad Lotus' model lineup and boost the reach of its sales, and the firm has put in around £60 million ($88 million) to design technologies that will enhance the total efficiency of its lineup, the Financial Times reports.
The latest electric Lotus will utilize a gasoline-propelled unit to charge its batteries while mobile, and with this technology in place the vehicle is expected to be able to have a range of between 300 to 400 miles per full tank.
Lotus is joining with an unnamed chief automotive producer to aid in the development of particular parts for its forthcoming electric vehicle, plus the range-expanding technology, and while the electric-only range for the vehicle still remains not certain, the same technology in GM's Volt outputs a 40 mile electric-only range. It is interesting that Tesla Motors lately contracts Lotus to put together the bodies for its Roadster, but when Lotus begins manufacture of its electric sports vehicle it will be targeting squarely at vehicles the likes of the Tesla Roadster
