Lotus Evora takes the ‘Performance Car of the Year 2009’ award

The Lotus Evora beat 29 other cars to be named as Performance Car of the Year 2009 by Car Magazine. It faced intense competition from very popular marques such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. A champion from Le Mans Series, Darren Turner, put the car through test drive on different roads in Britain. Objective testing was conducted at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, where the cars displayed their maximum performance qualities.

Lotus Evora is a mid-engined 2+2 seater sports coupe. A 3.5-liter V6 powers the car, developing 280ps and 342Nm of torque. With a car weight of only 1382kg, the Evora delivers an astonishing performance and what Turner claims is a unique experience behind the steering wheel. Continued after the jump! The Evora is able to accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and is able to reach a top speed of 261km/h.

The fuel consumption is jaw-droppingly low for a sports car at 8.7 liter/100km Combined Cycle and 6.5 liters/100 km on the highway. Aside from its other superior characteristics, Lotus has always prided itself for the handling of their sports cars. But it brought the Evora to a new level. Chris Chilton, Assistant Editor at Car Magazine, echoed our amazement.. He said, "There are executive saloons that don't ride this well, supercars that don't turn in so crisply, and surely no car on the planet steers like this." The Lotus Evora certainly deserves this award.
