General Motors and Canadian parts supplier Magna are near to closing a deal on the sale of Opel. Reports are saying that out of the original 26 points of dispute between the two firms, only three remain. Hendrik Hering, economy minister for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which is home to an Opel factory, said that a "good deal of the critical points have been settled" and that a deal between the two was likely within the next few days. The German government has been transparent about Magna being its preferred bidder. GM chairman Ed Whitacre said that while talks were still ongoing on whether Magna or RHJ International would come out the winner, a decision is expected soon. [via autocar]
