Mahindra pickup trucks to make their U.S. debut in Spring 2010

After testing has concluded for Mahindra's new compact pickups (the TR20 and TR40 models), they're now set to arrive at dealers in spring 2010. A report from PickupTrucks quotes John Perez, CEO of Mahindra's U.S. distributor, Global Vehicles USA to have said that production vehicles are expected to hit dealers in a few months' time. But before this could actually take place, the U.S. DOT and the NHTSA have to approve the vehicles and state their compliance. Nonetheless, Mahindra is confident that it will get the all clear in February due to the extensive testing it has performed on the trucks.
Perez said that the company projects that the vehicles will be on sale in the middle of spring. Two versions of the pickup truck will be offered: the two-door TR20 and crew cab TR40. Both use a 2.2-liter I-4 diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The truck is claimed to be capable of 30 mpg on the highway and it is also believed to have a payload capacity of more than 2700 lbs. Standard equipment include ABS, traction control, and stability control. The TR20 is expected to be priced at about $22,000. [via pickuptrucks]
