Majority stake of Pininfarina up for sale

The majority stake of Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina is for sale. Pincar, the Pininfarina family company, reached the decision in last week‚ board meeting to sell the 50.7% stake. Its bank is currently looking for potential buyers. Already, Indian manufacturer Tata is being tagged as one of the suitors.
It can be recalled that Pininfarina has partnered with Tata on the Tata Prima Concept car that was shown several months ago at the Geneva Motor show. It is believed that Pincar is not meaning to leave the firm completely; hence, the sale of the majority stake as part of a debt agreement with banks late last year. Pininfarina presently produces the Alfa Romeo Brera and Spider, the Maserati Quattroporte and Granturismo and the Ferrari California, 599 GTB Fiorano and 612 Scaglietti. Its latest model is the Ferrari 458 Italia. For those who don't know, last week another well-known Bertone, the well-known Italian coachbuilder was also sold to Fiat!
