After a series of surveys were conducted from Octane readers the Maserati won the title over the Auto Union Type C, Lotus 49 and Mercedes-Benz W196. The Maserati has gained an impressive record wins with 55 races won from 1954 to 1958 plus the Argentine grand prix in 1954. According to Royal Automobile Club and Octane Magazine the Maserati is the greatest of all legendary cars. The car won the 1956 Monaco and Italian Grand Prix with Sir Moss behind the wheel. Moss nominated the Maserati for voting and claims that the car gave him his first opportunity at Formula One.
