Maserati posted impressive sales gains in key markets this year

“Maserati is back again on its track,” according to CEO Harald Wester. Maserati posted remarkable sales gains in key markets this year and its deliveries are higher by 20% worldwide through August compared with 2009. Specifically, deliveries are up 49% in the US, 60% in China and 62% in the UK. These gains are attributed to the launch of the four-seat convertible GranCabrio, which sold 1,100 units through August, as well as the introduction of a new version of the Quattroporte this year.

Wester made these statements at the Paris Motor Show where Maserati revealed the MC Stradale -- the fastest, lightest and most powerful in its lineup. The MC Stradale will appear in the lineup in the first part of 2011 in several markets.

With a top speed of 301 kph, or 187 mph, the MC Stradale is the first Maserati to crack the 300-kph barrier. Wester also mentioned some future products in the Maserati portfolio. He said that a smaller sedan is possible and that Maserati is also developing a proprietary engine and platform for the next Quattroporte. Wester stated that like other supercar makers, it is focused on weight reduction and fuel economy. [via autonews - sub. required]
