At the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 28 to July 1, Mazda’s MX-5 GT Concept will make its debut. The road-legal 205bhp concept vehicle will be shown on Mazda’s stand throughout the festival. It will run in the ‘First Glance’ category during the hillclimb. Mazda took inspiration from its MX-5 GT race programme, a proven podium winner. By showing this concept off at Goodwood, Mazda hopes to gauge how customers would react to the high-performing version of the sportscar. The MX-5 GT Concept was made by race specialists at Jota Sport. It delivers 205bhp from a normally aspirated 2.0-litre Mazda petrol engine, which is partnered to the manual gearbox available as standard. The suspension was upgraded to make handling better. It could also be adjusted for various track conditions.
Aerodynamics is improved due to a carbon front splitter, a rear diffuser and boot spoiler. The exhaust note was improved with a sports exhaust system that has a central tailpipe. The driver is more stable with Recaro seats. Its interior comes with several carbon improvements that aid in reducing weight. If the car would be used for track use, customers can ask for road slicks and body-coloured roll hoops at the back of the seats. Mazda’s stand will also feature the Mazda Takeri sedan concept, which previews the design direction of the upcoming Mazda6, together with the newly launched all-new Mazda CX-5 compact SUV.
This is the first car to use Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology, improving fuel economy and lessening CO2 emissions without being an obstacle to pleasurable driving. Furthermore, Mazda will enter only its quickest and most powerful MX-5 to join the Goodwood hillclimb.
