Mazda’s 320bhp MX-5 GT4 – a fully-fledged GT race car – is being offered as a customer car for £150,000. Mazda has been very successful with the MX-5 GT4 car, which Jota Sport is developing. It is being challenged by the Avon Tyres British GT series. The GT4 racer can be easily recognized as an MX-5 but it doesn’t have much mechanical relation to its more achievable sibling, with a turbocharged 2.0-litre MZR motor, 1000kg kerbweight, fully sequential Hewland gearbox and FIA roll cage. It also used a considerable amount of carbonfibre body panels. The price includes some technical assistance. The car is obviously built for racing but consumers will need to factor in the funds to really compete on top of the car’s cost. Jota Sport’s managing director Sam Hignett said that if done on a budget, a full series in GT4 is likely valued at about £200,000. This model rivals similar units from Lotus, Aston Martin and Ginetta. Hignett said that the car is an easy car to race and would be desired by track day enthusiasts. He added that the car is still in development but it’s at a point that it could be offered to customers confident in the belief that it will be a front runner in any GT4 field. He claimed that the MX-5 GT4 is a promising contender in any race.
