Mazda's new line of Sky engines is highly anticipated. Even more so is the promise of a revolution within a couple of years. At a press event in Italy, Mazda unveiled its Shinari Concept, a four-door coupe that previews the expected revolution in design and technology. Mazda is confident that the Shinari, which was created by Mazda’s best engineers in the US, Germany, and Japan, will be able to compete with major players such as BMW and Audi on their own territory. At the event, Ikuo Maeda, general manager of Mazda Motor Corp.'s design division, said that this design will bring about the next generation of Mazda design as well as “other elements.” In an interview with Autonews, Derek Jenkins, Mazda NA director of design, said that the company “want[s] to play in the same group as BMW and Audi.” He added that Mazda is aiming for the same level of quality when it comes to the fit and the finish.
