Mazda wants police uniforms in the U.K.
Mazda has had success in serving about 42 police forces and other UK government agencies such as the HM Revenue and Customs. However, it now seeks to become a major UK police force vehicle supplier in 2010. The Japanese manufacturer hopes to enter the National Policing Improvement Agency vehicle framework agreement.
In a release, Jason Jenkins, Mazda UK key account manager, said that its vehicles are liked by the police and other agencies due to sporty drive and its first class reliability. Even though it has not been part of the framework agreement, Mazda has provided vehicles due to its performance. Currently, Mazda supplies about three vehicles each month to law enforcement agencies. The models most liked by police are Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda5, Mazda6 and Mazda CX-7. Mazda has also sent several vehicles to UK fire brigades and NHS Trust ambulance fleets. If Mazda does get accepted into the vehicle framework agreement, it aims to deliver 15 to 20 vehicles a month. Mazda says it will take the necessary steps towards being prepared for the agreement, which is set to come into effect in March 2010.
